Let’s face it, making a house a home is hard work.
We are all guilty of screenshotting pretty rooms on Instagram and getting a little pin-happy with loads of inspiration to decorate our homes.
But what do we do with all those pictures and ideas?
We check the price tag, log into our bank account online, eat a chocolate bar to mask the slight depression, and go on living in our plain ol’ boring house with the same décor that was there twelve years ago.
I’m here to save you!
(Cue the superhero music)
In The New House Designs is all about sharing simple and affordable ways to make any house your dream home.
Yes, it’s possible. I promise.
You may never have that huge house with the most high-end products money can buy.
But you sure can fake it.
And all you need is your current house (or apartment. I’m totally renter-friendly), a little creativity, some imagination, and ME!
My name is Lela and I am the founder of In The New House Designs.
I’m a coffee addict, animal lover, and I’m crazy about every shade of gray and white in existence.
I’m also an Interior Stylist specializing in redecorating homes with a focus on storage, functionality, and timeless design.

Back in 2014, I married the man of my dreams and moved into his bachelor pad. It was a rental with wallpaper in every room. And a funky 70’s kitchen with orange countertops. And the complete opposite of open concept. And lacked light fixtures. Shall I go on?
It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t my style.
But with ten plus years of interior decorating experience, a love for design, and a hate for pink wallpaper (from my own bachelorette pad) I found great ways to reflect my personality and style without breaking the bank or losing my deposit.
But I dreamt a lot about something more.
My poor hubby is a trooper. He put up with me saying “in the new house” twenty times a day and never complained.
Well, we finally found The New House in March of 2015. It is small and cute and cottagey and perfect for our family. But it doesn’t have all that stuff I said the new house would have. And after pricing everything I wanted, I knew I had to get crafty.
It is totally realistic to create your dream home on literally any budget, as long as you’re willing to work hard. And let me tell ya, I’m a worker.
I now spend every ounce of free time putting my own personal stamp on The New House. Psssst, you can tour it here!
My nine year old son teams up with me often, and my two lazy black cats provide plenty of company while I brainstorm my newest ideas.

When I’m not talking to my awesome friends online (that’s you!) or rearranging the furniture for the third time this month, I’m probably standing in the middle of the room with my hands on my hips spinning around in slow and random circles looking for something to clean or organize.
No, I’m not a clean freak (well, maybe a little) but I am allergic to dust and cat dander so I keep things extra spotless to make the sniffle count stay at a minimum. I will, however, admit that I am definitely an organization freak. Everything must have a place, a label, and be as neatly stored as possible. Are you like that, too? Or do you want to be? My Cleaning and Organization posts are the perfect place for you to hang out!
And if you’re in the middle of a room overhaul and you’re stumped on a layout, stuck between paint colors, or just want a fresh set of eyes, I offer online Design Services to help you get your plan in order. And you don’t even have to leave the house for a meeting. You can do the whole thing in your sweatpants. Little secret? I’ll probably be in mine too.

In loving memory of this handsome fella, Kenai. My very best friend in the whole world.
Who never really even cared what color scheme the living room was or how high from the ceiling the curtains were hung. As long as there was a box of stuffed squeaky toys incorporated into the design and a warm cozy blanket to snuggle in, he was happy with every with every room makeover I did.
