We’ve been in our new house for three months now. Every time I pull into the driveway and see our cheap faded mailbox I think “I’m going to do something about that.” Then something else comes up and I forget all about it until I leave again. Well I finally made it around to the task this weekend and I am in love!
Here’s the old yucky mailbox. Plain, faded, and full of rusty screws. The matte finish on it makes it impossible to remove the obvious birdie bathroom spots, too.
And here’s the after!
Huge difference, right? A can of spray paint and a decal from Mother, Me, I on Etsy (coupon code for store discount at bottom of page!) is all it took to brighten it up and make it look brand new. A few daylillies planted below were the perfect finishing touch. They don’t grow too high so they won’t get in the way and they help mask the ditch behind the mailbox.
To paint your own metal mailbox, just rub the whole thing down with fine grit sandpaper, then wipe clean with a rag. Follow with a couple of coats of outdoor weatherproof spray paint (I used Rustoleum Paint+Primer 2x coverage). I let it sit for 48 hours before applying the decals.
Not bad for less than twenty bucks, huh? I must say, I have the nicest mailbox on my street now.
