When it comes to kids, they have quite a bit of stuff. They have toys, games, stuffed animals, dolls, race tracks, art supplies, action figures…the list goes on and on. There’s only so much space in a room to keep all this stuff. After surveying my son’s room, I realized that his closet was such a wasted space. Most of his clothes were in his dresser. His winter gear was in the coat closet in the hall. And his little shoes fit in a bottom drawer of the dresser. The only thing in his closet was the random toys he has outgrown and old clothes from the season before. I was totally misusing this space. So I ran to the store, spent $40, and created this perfect toy home.
Hanging canvas shoe shelves house games, art supplies, and stuffed animals. In the middle is a 3-drawer plastic container on wheels so it can be rolled in and out for easy play and clean-up. A few more plastic containers and a shoe holder on the door for small stuff completed the little nook. I found that by putting his lesser played with toys in here while leaving his favorites out on the shelves of his room, this made for a much more organized and spacious space for him.
This super simple Saturday morning project was under fifty dollars and only took about an hour and a half to sort and organize. You need no design, carpentry, or tool skills. Just hang and fill.
So what are you waiting for? Get that junk out of your kid’s closet and make it a functional part of the room!
