For as long as I can remember, I’ve had this dream of having rocking chairs on a covered front porch.
The idea seemed so magical to me.
I pictured myself drinking coffee there in the morning while watching the hummingbirds dart across the yard.
I imagined I’d sit out there in the evenings with a cup of tea while my kid plays ball in the yard.
And I knew I’d be the most content, at-peace version of myself.
It would be my happy place. My getaway. My spot.
And for some reason, I never made it around to making that dream happen.
But this Mother’s Day, it finally happened.
My son and husband surprised me with two brand spankin’ new rocking chairs in the exact style I wanted.
Needless to say, I’ve broken them in already with lots of cups of coffee, tea, and front yard ball game watching.
But with all this porch sitting, I noticed things I’d like to change out there.
Like how my door darkens my entry, and my shutters are chipping, and my porch is splintered, and I need a new door mat, and the list goes on.
So I put together an idea board with a gorgeous combo of pretty stuff I might implement. Eventually.
It only took me 30 years to get rocking chairs anyway…
The inspiration was, of course, crisp white rocking chairs.
I paired them with a wide porch swing, perfect for cozying up with a blanket on a cool rainy evening.
There’s just something about rocking chairs and porch swings that make me swoon.
I’m especially crushing on these porch swing inspiration photos from Wayfair’s most recent blog post.
To top them off and up the cozy factor, I added in some colorful outdoor pillows.
Lately I’ve been borderline obsessed with bright coral and navy together.
Look in my closet, you’ll see what I mean.
To carry over my obsession, I made them the main accent colors of this design.
They are the perfect pop of color when paired with white and gray.
Although in my current opinion (which may be a little biased) they are perfect anywhere with anything.
Throw in some oil rubbed bronze hardware, plush greens (no flowers needed because you’ve got a ton of color already), a welcome mat, and a fresh new light fixture, and you’ve got yourself a front porch all the neighbors will be begging to hang out on.
A place you’ll drink your coffee and tea.
A place to watch the hummingbirds (which you’ve given all names and talk to them when no one is looking).
A place to watch the boys play ball.
And a place to read a good book. (Suggestion: Chosen by Sara Hanson. I just read it and it’s awesome!)
